James Milner is on his way to becoming the player with the most appearances in Premier League history. The England international made his debut as a teenager with Leeds and has gone on to play for clubs such as Newcastle, Aston Villa, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Brighton. It was at Aston Villa where he crossed paths with Carlos Cuéllar, who helped him in his development as he established himself in elite football.
At Aston Villa, Milner shared the dressing room with Carlos and with Gareth Barry, who was also on his way to becoming one of the finest midfielders in English football. The current Elche Ilicitano coach holds fond memories of both players. “Both of them, from a very young age, stood out for their professionalism and consistency. They were always an example for the coaches. They took great care of themselves and were rarely injured.”
The newspaper MARCA wanted to recognise Milner’s career by reviewing all the clubs he has played for and invited Carlos Cuéllar to analyse the playing style and attitude of a footballer who has become a true legend of British football.
