Goodbye to the Carling Cup

On december 2010

Birmingham City are through to the semi-finals of the Carling Cup after edging out fierce Aston Villa at St Andrews (2-1). Sebastien Larsson gave Alex McLeish's side the lead on 12 minutes from the penalty spot. Villa equalised as Gabriel Agbonlahor continued his fine record against City.

Villa were marginally the better team in the second-half but Zigic scored on 84 minutes. The Houllier's team almost rescued the tie when Clark headed just over from Downing's cross. Carlos Cuéllar, recovered from injury, was on the bench.

Now, Birmingham join Arsenal, West Ham and Ipswich in the last four of the League Cup.

Birmingham fans, celebrating their first appearance in the last four in 10 seasons, invaded the pitch after the final whistle.
