On 5 April 2007, Osasuna achieved a historic victory at BayArena in Leverkusen, in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup. Carlos Cuéllar scored the first goal of the 0-3. The Navarrese team dominated Bayer from start to end.

The game started in the best possible way. Cuéllar headed in a corner kick taken by David López in the first minute. The second time he scored against a German club (months before he had scored a goal against Hamburg in the previous round of the Champions League).

In the second half, David López (minute 71) and Webó (73) sealed the result against Bayer Leverkusen, a classic of continental football (winner of the UEFA Cup in 1988 and runner-up in the Champions League in 2002).

Osasuna would also win the second leg (1-0) before losing in the semifinals to Sevilla, who won the tournament. That disappointment could not overshadow an impressive run by Carlos Cuéllar and his teammates. Osasuna achieved his two most significant results away from home in European competition (0-3 against Parma in the first round and the 0-3 in Leverkusen).
