Petrov, un ejemplo de lucha / Petrov, an example of struggle

The news that Stiliyan Petrov had had leukemia was received like a harsh strike a year ago, but months later, after announcing his definitive goodbye to professional football, sensations are much better due to his treatment, that is working and answering positively. A couple of days ago I had the chance of seeing him after Aston Villa’s match and the truth is he transmitted good vibrations to me.

PetrovSince I arrived to the Villans my relationship with him was intimate, he always worried for my adaptation to the team and he helped me when I couldn’t speak the language. Maybe he identified himself with me as his entrance was very similar to mine and I have always tried to return that confidence back to him specially during these last months.

I have no doubt that he is going to win this match, perhaps the most important match of his life, and he will live again, in the future, a new era around football pitches. Football is his passion and it will keep on being it, in spite of going through a complicated situation, and we miss that passion for football from the inside.

Taking a look back, to everything we have achieved, Petrov can retire with a calm conscience. He was a great player and he became the footballer who played more matches with the Bulgarian T-shirt, even ahead of Penev. His attitude and character while in the pitch made him achieve numberless succeses and now, outside the game, it will be key for a new life among his family and friends. Without a doubt, he will be an example for plenty of people who unfortunately sustain this disease.

Felicidades a David De Gea / Congratulations to David De Gea

Felicidades a De Gea

The victory achieved against Newcastle two game weeks ago was an important turning point that was confirmed thanks to the three goals scored against Everton. Two consecutive winning matches have cheered up all the group and at last fans and players are joined together again. What we lived in the last match in Stadium of Light was something unique, I had never seen our fans animate so much and that is something we appreciate after a long and hard working week like the last one.

Felicidades a De Gea
It is true that we are still not mathematically saved, but with the generous work we are doing, team is responding and if we keep on like this, we can solve a season that did not start very well. After everything happened, we think that in this last part of the Premier we can climb up to the first 10, something vital for the club.

It is true that every player is sincerely compromised and working hard to sum up more victories, but everything is easier thanks to Sessegnon’s momentum. He is on fire and his goals are helping us a lot this last part of the season.

With my eyes on next week game I can only say that at last comes Villa Park’s match. When we saw the schedule it was the first match I had in mind, I am eager to play against my old fans and to see all my old friends that I left in Aston Villa. There is no doubt that I now play and die for Sunderland, and that I will fight to achieve victory, but after the final whistle, I will hope the best for them. I’d like both teams to play in a different situation, but I have no doubt that both teams will avoid relegation.

I wouldn’t like to forget giving my congratulations to Man United for the new Premier title and for becoming the club with more Premiers. They have worked hard since the beginning and they deserve it. I must congratulate De Gea as well, our representative on the Red Devils, that has ended up shutting lots of mouths after being unjustly criticized at the beginning of the season. He has been key for the title and he deserves it.

One week more, I thank you all for all the messages you send me via social networks, it is a great pleasure. Big hugs for everyone.

Todo se ve de otra manera / Everything seems the other way

—————————

With a victory in my pocket and just after playing as a starting player, everything seems the other way. The truth is that after a couple of complicated weeks with an ankle injury, now I’m very happy and I feel great. Helping to get the three points against Newcastle in the Derby has made everything look perfect again.

After the last changes in the club, the new Mister is fitting well and the squad has reacted, giving a solid team impression. It is true that winning on the last game-week is something important after the bad results we had made, but we mustn’t forget that we have to keep on working, as winning a single match does not give us the salvation.

Regarding my personal performance against Newcastle, the truth is I was eager to return to the football pitch and I only regret Krul’s parry over my header just in the line. It’d have been a great experience to score a goal in such an important day for our fans, but I think I must save that experience for next matches. Regarding my sub, we mustn’t worry because it was only a precaution after spending so much time out of the team. I wish I can be completely fit for when we meet Everton.

In this great moment in which we have won the last match, I can’t forget thanking the fans for their support, we are proud of them and after cheering us up in such a complicated stage, it was time for us to compensate with a good match. We are absolutely certain that without them we can’t acquire salvation.

In the face of last’s week derby, I had noted in social networks that the match against Newcastle was quite important. Many of you sent me encouragement messages and that always helps to know the responsibility we have in every single match.

Now we must think of Everton. It will be a difficult match as we mustn’t forget that they are playing to get into the Champs League positions, but we must take advantage of the great moment in which we are right now and keep on adding points.

The week’s bad news was Boston’s terror attack. A happy weekend was blackened by what happened. One does not understand why these kind of things should happen and I like to give my condolences to all affected families. Things like that happen every single day and we don’t give them the importance they deserve, I wish there was a time in which these things wouldn’t happen.

With all this, I can only thank you all for the love you have given me in all this time I’ve been away and I promise that we will keep on fighting to not be relegated and to take the team where it deserves.

Recordando mi infancia / Fond memories of my childhood

————————————————-

The Champions League day this week has been special for Real Madrid, because they made it through to the quarter finals, and also for me because I had the chance to be presence at my first Champions tie as a spectator at “The Theater of Dreams”. Everything I lived was amazing since the arrival until I left. Both supporters were superb chanting their teams without stopping even a couple times I had goose bumps thinking of how important the football is in this kind of situations.

One of the images I kept in mind of the game was Ferguson´s reaction to Nani´s red card. Ferguson with the eagerness of a beginner incited the stand to keep supporting the team throughout the game.  That´s when you realize how the scot lives football and care for his club.

I read in different media that Cristiano Ronaldo admitted the circumstances overcome him and I couldn’t agree more with him. We (footballers) are human beings and so we have feelings too and the warm welcome the former supporters afforded to the Portuguese was beautiful I must say.

Just by meeting Sanchís one of my childhood idols made me remember when I was a child and I used to go to the Bernabéu. Along with Hierro, Sanchís was one of my favourite players and I just like to thank him and Juan Carlos Rivero (TVE commentator) how well they treated me at Old Trafford and the fact that they allowed me see the game alongside Pardeza, Florentino, Brendan Rodgers or Roy Hodgson among others coaches and staff from Real Madrid, was fantastic.

This way and despite I always try to keep in touch with supporters through this blog and social networks, last Tuesday I felt what supporters do feel when I´m playing.

Less I forget I´d like to congratulate Real Madrid for making through the next stage of the Champions League. I had my soul divided by the fact it was a team from Madrid and a team that after all this time in England I truly appreciate.

After the Manchester United – Real Madrid game we are back to work to make the Sunderland fans feel the same experiences the Real Madrid fans did. It won´t be an easy game but we need a victory over QPR. It will be my first match at Loftus Road and I hope we can get the three points.

Once again thanks for the support!! I keep on working to give back some of the affection I receive.

¿Por qué no en San Mamés? / Why not San Mamés?

———————–

After a week in Dubai doing a “mini” preseason stage, we are back to realty in the cold Sunderland but with the batteries fully charged to face the last stretch of the Premier. Getting out of routine was great and we are pretty sure we can achieve our target, to finish in the top ten places of the table.

Because the weather conditions in England didn´t let us finish the work session many times, I think the trip to Dubai has been perfect for us having the perfect conditions we has trained both the tactical and the physical part.

Spending a week over there with your team mates with who you spend most of the time helps to improve the day to day life and ease the way you face a difficult situation making it easier to get over it.

In Dubai we used to train in the morning having the afternoon free to do whatever you liked, some stayed in bed for a nap others went shopping and some went to the beach to enjoy a bit of sun. These are the kind of things that makes an easy comeback to routine and confidence to give everything on the pitch.

Personally, I can´t wait to play again after the injury I just put that behind. This stage has been positive to me and I´m feeling fit again. Now it is time to wait for the chance.

Back to the trip, I did know Dubai because I went there when I was playing at Villa but it always impresses me. When you are there you think you are in a James Bond movie. Since the arrival at the airport, there´s restaurants, high street shops… anything you can imagine it´s there.

I had the chance to spent some time with Michu, Pablo Hernández y Rangel and tell each other our stories and have a laugh as we coincided with Swansea over there. Also Michel Salgado who lives in Dubai jointed us and told us about his life there. Nice afternoon though.

Finally I´d like to share information I got the other day, it said that I was the second best effective defender in Europe, having just Carlos Martínez from Real Sociedad above me. I didn´t know it to be honest, but it´s always nice!

This is it for the moment, thanks for the support! I promise to keep on working to get the best place possible by the end of the season.

—————————

Although we are away until the good weather arrives to England, the truth is I´m already looking good by the fact I´m fully fit again. These weeks off had been a bit harsh. Having  just a game a week makes the time even longer, nothing like the Xmas run; but now I´m just thinking of Arsenal this Saturday.

I travelled with the team for the last game to Reading, it´s normal I did not play, the team was in a good run of three games unbeaten but it will be different against the Gunners as I do believe O’Neill will count on me. I´m at his disposal completely recovered and fully fit to help out the team and so give something back to the supporters because I think our position in mid-table is due to we´re doing things in the right way. Nonetheless we will not settle it´s a long season and we better watch it out.

Playing against Arsenal, one of the big teams in the Premier is always a pleasure but playing against a friend of mine (Monreal) makes it even better. I´m really looking forward to it, we shared the changing room a few years at Osasuna and we got on very well. Although he made his debut last week, I will welcome him to a very enjoyable league. Carzorla and Arteta also will be there, so it will be like a documentary of Spaniards around the world.

I´m sure it will be a great experience for Monreal. Playing for a historic team, in a top competition and under Wenger´s orders; he deserves it for all the hard work he´s done. But all these nice words I just dedicated him doesn´t mean the game will be easy, they will have to fight if they want to get the three points…

Thanks everyone for all the support the past weeks now it´s time to give something back from the pitch.

Os voy a contar mi día a día actual. Leer / Read +

Unas Navidades redondas / The perfect Xmas

Leer / Read +

Pienso en el Chelsea y me acuerdo de Petrov / Thinking of Chelsea I do remember Petrov
