Otra vez me tocó cruz en Wembley. No pudo ser. Una pena, la verdad, porque era la tercera vez que llegaba a este templo del fútbol y tenía muchas ganas de celebrar el titulo de la Capital One Cup con el Sunderland y por fin disfrutar de los fuegos artificiales.
Y eso que en la primera parte lo tuvimos ahí con el gol de mi compañero Borini. Sorprendimos al City y se lo pusimos complicado, pero, como ya he dicho en anteriores ocasiones, la pegada que tienen es impresionante y quedó de manifiesto cuando le dieron la vuelta al marcador.

We can’t wait for the beginning of the match on Sunday. We are in a special week right now with Wembley as our horizon and the squad is noticing it. Everything surrounding the team is different with the Capital One Cup at stake and the heat of the fans is more present than ever. On the streets everybody is trying to cheer us up, as we all have only one thing in mind, which is also highlighted on our calendar: The Sunday Final.

It is true that the last Premier match wasn’t good, but it won’t affect us regarding this Sunday. We have isolated ourselves from what happened and we know that, although Manchester City are favourites, we already learnt how to beat them during this season. We have to maintain the thoughts we had after that match in our stadium and we are certain that we can make the crowd happy, as they deserve. The players know that the last months have been harsh, but that’s why we have to give our max level so that everybody can redeem themselves from the suffering of losing.

Although there aren’t many positive things regarding the last match against Arsenal, personally I think of my return to the game as these last months have been very complicated for me. Now I felt that I was another player again, as in my first debut.

Regarding Wembley again, it’s a stadium in which both players and supporters enjoy. I wish I could win my first victory there. I’ve played on two occasions, against Man United on the Carling Cup Final and on a FA CUP seminifal against Chelsea. ‘Third time lucky’ they say…

Only on our way to Wembley, with all our supporters cheering up the bus as we arrive, the colour of the stands and the structure of the stadium will give us goosebumps on our skin as we get to feel we are privileged to be there.

Finally I’d like to congratulate Osasuna of course for their great match against Atlético de Madrid last Sunday. I’m watching the ‘rojillos’ progress from here and they are making a great job, at middle table and making all the great clubs in Spain lose at least two points at El Sadar, nobody could beat them there at home. Without a doubt, their supporters have something that makes them special and it is key for the players to have máximum confidence over the pitch.

Once again, thank you all for everything, all the cheering up and the rest and I wish that next week I can share with you my first title in England.

Ya estamos descontando las horas para que comience la final del domingo. Estamos en una semana especial con la cita de Wembley en el horizonte y todo ello, se nota en la plantilla. Alrededor del equipo todo es distinto con la Capital One Cup en juego y el apoyo de los aficionados nos llega más que nunca. Por la calle todo son mensajes de ánimo para una cita que tenemos señalada con rojo en nuestro calendario.

Es cierto que el último partido de Premier League no fue bueno, pero no influirá para nada de cara al próximo domingo, nos hemos aislado de lo ocurrido y sabemos que, a pesar de que el Manchester City es favorito, nosotros ya sabemos lo que es ganarles en la presente temporada. Nos quedamos con la fuerza psicológica que nos dio el choque ante ellos en nuestro estadio y tenemos la confianza de que podemos dar una alegría a una afición que se merece todo. Los jugadores somos conscientes que los últimos meses no están siendo fáciles y por ello, vamos a dar todo para recompensar de alguna forma todo el sufrimiento.

Aunque no hay muchas cosas positivas de la cita frente al Arsenal, personalmente me quedo con mi regreso a la convocatoria, ya que tras unos meses bastante complicados me he vuelto a sentir un jugador más, disputando un puesto en el once y parecía como si fuera a debutar de nuevo.

Volviendo al partido de Wembley, un estadio donde jugadores y aficionados disfrutan a partes iguales, espero conseguir mi primera victoria allí. He jugado en dos ocasiones, una final de Carling ante el Manchester United y una semifinales de FA Cup contra el Chelsea, ojalá que a la tercera sea la vencida. Sólo el camino hasta Wembley, la llegada en el autobús con los aficionados animando, el colorido de las gradas o la estructura del estadio con el arco te ponen los pelos de punta y te hacen sentirte un auténtico
privilegiado.

No me quiero despedir sin felicitar a Osasuna por su partido contra el Atlético de Madrid el pasado domingo. Desde la distancia sigo las evoluciones de los rojillos y están haciendo un trabajo excepcional, en la zona media de la tabla y consiguiendo que ninguno de los tres grandes de la Liga salieran victoriosos de El Sadar. Sin lugar a dudas, la afición tiene algo que le hace ser única y es clave para que los jugadores tengan máxima confianza sobre el césped.

Una vez más, muchas gracias a todos por los ánimos y ojalá, la próxima semana pueda compartir con todos vosotros mi primer título en Inglaterra.

I write to you before the Champions League match between Manchester City and F.C. Barcelona. At this point, It won’t be me who uncovers ‘The Citizens’, but it will certainly be an amazing match for the supporters and football lovers. With the budget and squad of Man City, it is complicated to find weaknesses, but as everyone, they do have some.

Sunderland are on the League’s Cup Final. What a great joy and happiness I’m feeling right now and I’m amazed by how life has changed for us during the last months, it’s just been incredible.
