¿Por qué no en San Mamés? / Why not San Mamés?

Una vez olvidada la derrota frente al WBA, hemos pasado toda la semana preparando el próximo partido frente al Fulham. Creo que en el encuentro de Brimingham merecimos algo más y fue una pena no sumar puntos para dar una alegría a nuestra fiel afición. Personalmente, la buena noticia para mí fue la visita de mis amigos españoles de allí, que me hizo mucha ilusión volver a verles.

El partido contra el Fulham va a ser especial porque siempre motiva jugar contra un equipo al que les has marcado un gol. Me acuerdo perfectamente del encuentro de ida, cuando ganamos 1-3 en Londres y anoté mi primer tanto oficial con la camiseta del Sunderland.

Durante los últimos días he estado bastante pendiente del fútbol español por las semifinales de Copa del Rey y me he llevado una buena alegría al ver que dos equipos madrileños jugarán la final. Acostumbrado a la organización de Inglaterra, se hace raro que todavía no se conozca la fecha ni la sede de la final y desde mi punto de vista, creo que sería una buena idea hacerla en San Mamés. Sería una perfecta despedida para un estadio en el que me encantaba jugar. El ambiente siempre es increíble en La Catedral y seguro que se echará de menos cuando el Athletic cambie definitivamente de ‘casa’.

El pasado Clásico del Barcelona – Real Madrid tuve la ocasión de verlo reunido con un buen grupo de aficionados españoles en un bar. Los colores entre todos estaban bastante divididos y finalmente, fueron los madridistas lo que lo celebraron algo más. No estaban acostumbrados a ver ganar a su equipo de esa forma al Barcelona y se llevaron una buena alegría. Para el sábado se ha pensado hacer otra quedada, pero yo tendré que intentar no enterarme del resultado y verlo en diferido después de nuestro choque frente al Fulham.

Por último, quiero destacar que la cita del sábado será especial para nuestro ex compañero Kieran Richardson. A mí me hace especial ilusión coincidir con él de nuevo y seguro que será bonito. Eso sí, le desearé toda la suerte del mundo para su equipo después del partido, que esta vez nos tenemos que llevar nosotros los tres puntos.

Once forgotten the defeat to WBA we’ve been preparing the next game against Fulham this week. I think we deserved at least a point from the game to Birmingham not only for the team but for the supporters. Good news to me though, I had some friends over visiting me, it was good to see them again.

It is always motivating to play a team you have scored a goal before and against Fulham it’s one those times. I perfectly remember the first leg game, in that occasion we won 3-1 at Craven Cottage and I scored my first official goal as a black cat.

I payed a lot of attention to football these past few days as the Copa del Rey reached the semifinals and I was glad to see two teams from Madrid making it through to the final. Used to the good British organization it’s a shame not to know when and where the final will be play. I think San Mamés is a great place and would be the perfect good bye for a stadium I love to play in, there’s always a good atmosphere there. I’m sure La Catedral will be missed.

I watched el Clásico in a bar along with a big group of Spanish people. They were like half and half more or less but in the end the Madrid fans enjoyed it more although lately they’re not use to win Barcelona so clearly. They’re thinking to meet up again for Saturday’s el Clasico this time I’ll watch it recorded after the game against Fulham.

Finally, this Saturday will be special for our exteam mate Kieran Richardson. I’m looking forward to meet him up again. It will be nice. Though I wish him and his team the best of luck after the match.
