Como en una peli de James Bond / Like a James Bond movie

Tras una semana realizando una mini pretemporada en Dubai, hemos vuelto a la realidad del frío de Sunderland y con las pilas cargagas para afrontar los últimos doce partidos de Premier League que nos quedan. Salir de la rutina nos vino genial y estamos seguros de que vamos a conseguir nuestro objetivo marcado, quedar entre los diez primeros en la clasificación.

Después de que el viento y el frío de Inglaterra nos impideran entrenar bien y nos obligara a tener que dejar las sesiones de trabajo a medias en muchas ocasiones, el viaje a Dubai ha sido perfecto para desconectar y ejercitarnos sin impedimentos, ya que las condiciones de allí eran perfectas para ello. Hemos entrenado tanto la parte táctica como la física y todos los jugadores nos encontramos a tope.

Pasar una semana así con todo el equipo ayuda mucho a la convivencia, ya que pasas mucho tiempo con tus compañeros y este tipo de cosas siempre unen para cuando vengan los momentos complicados, superarlos con mayor facilidad y unidos.

En Dubai, entrenábamos por las mañanas y por las tardes se formaban varios grupos. Unos se quedaban durmiendo, otros optaban por ir de compras y otros iban a la playa para aprovechar el sol que no solemos tener durante la mayoría del año en Sunderland. Este tipo de cosas hace que uno vuelva a la rutina con un gran empujon y con mucha confianza para darlo todo sobre el campo.

A nivel personal, estoy con unas ganas enormes de volver a jugar después de la lesión, algo que ya está totalmente olvidado. La pretemporada ha sido muy positiva para mí y me encuentro muy fuerte. Ahora toca esperar la oportunidad del mister.

Respecto al viaje, yo conocía Dubai porque estuve concentrado en este mismo hotel cuando jugaba en el Aston Villa, pero lo cierto es que nunca deja de impresionar. Cuando estás allí, uno se piensa que está protagonizando una película de James Bond. Desde que llega al aeropuerto, uno ya está impresionado. Hay restaurantes, tiendas de lujo… Todo lo que uno se puede imaginar está aquí.

Como coincidimos aquí con el Swansea, tuve la oportunidad de pasar una tarde con Michu, Pablo Hernández y Rangel. Siempre se agradece poder charlar con alguien español y contarnos nuestras batallitas para echar unas risas. También se unió Michel Salgado, que está viviendo en Dubai y nos explicó cómo es la vida alló. Fue una bonita tarde.

Por último, no me quiero olvidar de hablar de una información que me pasaron el otro día, en la que se decía que era el segundo defensa más efectivo de Europa, sólo superado por Carlos Martínez, de la Real Sociedad. Lo cierto es que no tenía ni idea, pero a uno siempre le gustan estas cosas y es un halago para seguir trabajando.

After a week in Dubai doing a “mini” preseason stage, we are back to realty in the cold Sunderland but with the batteries fully charged to face the last stretch of the Premier. Getting out of routine was great and we are pretty sure we can achieve our target, to finish in the top ten places of the table.

Because the weather conditions in England didn´t let us finish the work session many times, I think the trip to Dubai has been perfect for us having the perfect conditions we has trained both the tactical and the physical part.

Spending a week over there with your team mates with who you spend most of the time helps to improve the day to day life and ease the way you face a difficult situation making it easier to get over it.

In Dubai we used to train in the morning having the afternoon free to do whatever you liked, some stayed in bed for a nap others went shopping and some went to the beach to enjoy a bit of sun. These are the kind of things that makes an easy comeback to routine and confidence to give everything on the pitch.

Personally, I can´t wait to play again after the injury I just put that behind. This stage has been positive to me and I´m feeling fit again. Now it is time to wait for the chance.

Back to the trip, I did know Dubai because I went there when I was playing at Villa but it always impresses me. When you are there you think you are in a James Bond movie. Since the arrival at the airport, there´s restaurants, high street shops… anything you can imagine it´s there.

I had the chance to spent some time with Michu, Pablo Hernández y Rangel and tell each other our stories and have a laugh as we coincided with Swansea over there. Also Michel Salgado who lives in Dubai jointed us and told us about his life there. Nice afternoon though.

Finally I´d like to share information I got the other day, it said that I was the second best effective defender in Europe, having just Carlos Martínez from Real Sociedad above me. I didn´t know it to be honest, but it´s always nice!
