Pienso en el Chelsea y me acuerdo de Petrov / Thinking of Chelsea I do remember Petrov

Os escribo mientras fuera cae la primera nevada del año desde que estoy en el Sunderland. Hoy las calles estaban blancas, muy bonitas para ver desde casa pero no para moverse. ¡Qué frio! Tapado con la manta en las rodillas, os digo que no ha sido una semana no muy positiva, ya que no hemos podido ganar y sufrimos una derrota en el campo del Norwich. El equipo sigue manteniendo la confianza, estamos obteniendo peores resultados de los que merecemos y sabemos que además podemos mejorar en algunos aspectos. Lo bueno es que en la caseta todos estamos convencidos de que poco a poco la cosa cambiará y trabajamos en esa línea.

El primer partido para hacerlo es el del sábado ante el Chelsea, un enfrentamiento que es especial por varios motivos para mí. La última vez que jugué contra ellos, ganamos en Stamford Bridge y marcó un golazo mi amigo Stylian Petrov, que sigue luchando contra la leucemia. Fue el día de Nochevieja, me tocó jugar de lateral y perseguir al gran Juan Mata. Lo hice bastante bien y hasta me llevé su camiseta de recuerdo, aunque no me la he puesto. Es que está más delgado que yo… 😉

Desde entonces no he vuelto a coincidir en el césped contra ellos (recuerdo también un 3-3 en Londres justo al final muy emocionante), ya que en el partido de la segunda vuelta estaba lesionado y no pude jugar. Ese día, en marzo, también fue especial porque fue la semana en la que supimos que Stan tenía la enfermedad y acudió a Villa Park a ver el partido y se llevó la ovación de la grada. Los que estábamos allí nos emocionamos. Espero que este fin de semana mi amigo pueda ver un triunfo nuestro por televisión. Seguro que alucinará con la cantidad de españoles que habrá en el partido. Ellos tenían ya el año pasado a Oriol Romeu, Fernando Torres (contra el que he jugado varias veces aquí) y mi amigo Juanin. Este año ha llegado César Azpilicueta, que fue compañero mío en Osasuna, y ahora Rafa Benítez en el banquillo. Será un partido con mucho interés para la gente en España (ellos tienen gente en el cuerpo médico también) y a mí me hace sentir orgulloso.

Creo que justo después del partido ellos viajan a Japón para el Mundialito de clubes. El viaje es largo y espero que se les haga un poco más porque lleven una derrota en el equipaje. Les deseo lo mejor desde el lunes y espero que vuelvan cargados, con el título del Mundialito en la maleta pero nosotros necesitamos ese triunfo en el Stadium of Light. La afición quiere una alegría y ojalá podamos ganar estos dos partidos seguidos (el martes próximo jugamos el que se suspendió por la lluvia ante el Reading) antes de enfrentarnos al líder Manchester United.

Espero que para ese día nosotros ya tengamos 19 puntos y los españoles del Chelsea estén a punto de jugar la final del Mundialito. Y todos contentos…

Here I am again writing this blog while I see the snow falling outside from home, my first one at Sunderland. The streets are quite nice all covered in snow, but it’s better to stay in on the sofa, outside its just too cold!! This has not been a positive week at all as we lost to Norwich and although the team still confidence enough we are not getting good results out of the games and we know we need to improve a few aspects. The good thing though is the restroom still believe the results will come sooner or later so we’re working hard to turn the situation around. Our first chance is against Chelsea this weekend, a special game for me for different reasons. Last time I played at Stamford Bridge we won and with a great goal from my friend Stylian Petrov, who by-the-way still fighting leukemia. It was the day of New year’s eve and I played as a left back defending Juan Mata. I did play a good game, we even swapped T-shirts although I have not wear it yet… he’s fitter than me…hahaha

I have not coincided with them since then (I do remember a thrilling 3-3 draw in London in the last minute), as I missed the second leg tie because of an injury. That same day, in March, we also knew Stan was diagnosed with leukemia during the week. Despite the bad news he went to Villa Park to see the match and the stand dedicated him a deserved ovation. It was very touchy for everyone who was there. I hope he can see us win on telly. I’m sure he will freak out with so many Spanish players on the pitch. Chelsea already have Torres, Oriol Romeu and Mata from the year before. Azpilicueta (former team mate at Osasuna) in the summer and recently Benitez has both joined the team besides a few more within the medical staff.

I believe they are leaving to Japan right after the match for the FIFA Club World Cup. It’s a long journey and I hope it would be longer if they leave with a defeat. I wish them best of luck from Monday on hoping they’ll be back with the trophy but until then we need that win at the Stadium of Light. The supporters deserve a win so we’ll try to win these two games before facing ManU next week and also Reading this Tuesday (the game was suspended because of the rain).

 Hopefully for that day we’ll have 19 points and Chelsea will be playing the final. Everyone will be happy then
