Preparando el debut oficial con el Sunderland / Preparing the Sunderland debut

Ha pasado mucho tiempo desde que me despedí por aquí de vosotros. Han sido unos meses de cambios y muchas vivencias. Tras dejar el Aston Villa me marché unos días a España, para estar con mis amigos después de un tiempo sin acudir a verlos. Además, aproveché para ver a mi fisioterapeuta personal, José Vilariño, para estar a punto antes de la nueva aventura. Al final seguiré en Inglaterra, mi primera opción, y lo haré a las órdenes de Martin O Neill, con quién ya he trabajado. En cuanto supe que existía la opción de volver a estar con él lo tuve claro. Y aquí estoy, en el Sunderland. Todo está yendo fenomenal. La gente me ha recibido de modo espectacular, no tengo más que palabras de agradecimiento. Ha sido espectacular desde que se anunció mi fichaje. El otro día estuve en Durham, que me pareció muy bonita, y volví encantado 

La pretemporada está siendo exigente, ya que el míster quiere que estemos bien preparados a nivel físico para el inicio liguero ante el Arsenal. Hemos estado en Corea del Sur, allí jugamos la Copa de la Paz, y tuve unas molestias de las que estoy recuperado. De hecho, jugué los 90 minutos en Suecia ante el Helsinborgs.

La ciudad me gusta mucho, he ido a conocer los alrededores y hasta he estado en la playa. No, no me ha hecho un tiempo espectacular porque no hay que olvidar que esto es el Reino Unido y no Andalucía. En el periodo que me ha coincidido en mi nueva casa me acerqué a ver a la selección olímpica a Sant James Park, en Newcastle, ya que está muy cerca de donde vivo. Me pasé un rato a estar con mi amigo Juan Mata antes del partido con Honduras. No tuvieron nada de suerte: palos, decisiones polémicas… Una pena. La verdad es que para el país ha sido una experiencia increíble vivir otros Juegos Olimpicos. Yo disfruto siempre con el deporte y además en estas situaciones ves algunas disciplinas que te suele encontrar ver por televisión. A mí me encanta el atletismo, de hecho empecé como corredor de fondo en el barrio hasta que lo cambié por el balón. Parece que no se me da tan mal ya que en unos días jugaré el primer partido con la rojblanca del Sunderland ante el Arsenal. Será mi sexta campaña en las Islas. Y tan feliz…

It is been a long time since last time, it´s been a time of changes and many life experiences. After leaving Villa I went on holidays to Spain for a few days to visit my friends after a long while. I also went to visit my physiotherapist, José Vilariño, to get ready for the new challenge ahead.

I decided to stay in England, it was my first option anyway, and I will be under Martin O’Neill´s orders again. As soon as I knew there was a chance to be with him again, I made up my mind and, so here I am at Sunderland, everything is going great the people´s being so kind since the announcement of my signing, I really appreciate it. The other day I went to Durham, which I think it´s quite nice, and I came back delighted.

The pre-season it is being exacting, the manager wants us in good conditions for the start of the season against Arsenal. We have been in South Korea playing the Copa de la Paz tournament, I had minor injury of which I am already recover, and in fact I played 90 minutes in Sweden against Helsinborgs.

I like the city very much, I have been getting to know the area and I even went to the beach. The weather was not the best, what can I say this is England not Andalucía and I visited the Spanish team at Newcastle as my new place is not too far from there. I met Juan Mata before the game to Honduras. They were not lucky at all: a few posts, controversial decisions… a pity.

England is thrill living the experience, again, of organizing the Olympics Games. I always enjoy sports and the Olympics are a great opportunity to watch some of the disciplines you normally cannot get on telly. I love athletics, in fact I used to be a long distance runner until I quitted for football. In a few days I will make my debut with the Sunderland outfit against Arsenal. It will be my sixth season at the Islands. And feeling good…
