Pre-Match: Café, bromas y videos antes del partido / Videos, Jokes and Cofee before the game

¿Qué pasa desde que nos convocan hasta que llegamos al estadio? Muchos me preguntáis cómo es un pre-partido y qué hago una vez llegado al hotel, así que, voy a contaros como es mi día antes de un partido con el Aston Villa.

Normalmente nos llevan al hotel el día anterior, de esta manera controlan la alimentación, el descanso, nos aíslan de la presión y de los aficionados. Cuando llegamos al hotel hacemos el checking como vosotros cuando vais de viaje y se hacen dos grupos: los que se quedan en las habitaciones viendo la televisión o jugando a la play y los que nos vamos a tomar el café.

El grupo del café está formado por Stan (Petrov), Gabby, Brad (Guzan), Fabian (Delph), Emil (Heskey) y ahora este año se han unido Charles (N´zogbia) y Alan (Hutton). Pasamos gran parte de la tarde contando lo que hemos hecho esa semana, recordamos las bromas del vestuario y de los entrenamientos. También nos reímos unos de otros, sobre todo por la ropa que lleva cada uno… La verdad es que ese suele ser un tema muy recurrido, del que ninguno nos salvamos porque ¡días malos los tiene cualquiera!  Incluido yo.

Quizá nuestro blanco favorito es Brad Guzan, al que tenemos martirizado porque calza un 60 por lo menos y nos reímos mucho de sus zapatillas ¡porque no encuentra números! Yo tampoco me salvo: se ríen de mí acento y la pronunciación. Confieso: lo veo lógico. ¡La verdad es que tenemos bromas para todo el equipo! Además del cachondeo, también analizamos las posibilidades del partido, hablamos del rival contra el que nos toca jugar, de nuestro juego y si algún compañero tiene un amigo en el equipo contrario solemos enviarle mensajes para picarnos antes de empezar. Lo cierto, es que nos reímos mucho y nos hace más fuerte como equipo.

Sobre las seis y media de la tarde tenemos meeting, esa charla en el que el míster analiza al rival contrario (este sí es el análisis oficial, no como nuestros comentarios del grupo del café) y dura unos quince o veinte minutos. Después llega la hora de cenar y comenzamos sobre las siete de la tarde. Sí, ya sé que os puede resultar raro, pero os lo recuerdo: ¡estamos en Inglaterra! Para la cena tenemos buffet libre con varios tipos de pasta, mucha verdura y pescado o pollo. Hay una gran variedad. La mayoría de nosotros cenamos ensalada de primero y pasta con pollo de segundo. Yo me suelo subir un cuenco de fruta para la habitación porque, entre nosotros, a eso de las diez de la noche ¡me estoy comiendo los codos!.

Después de la cena, hay días que me quedo tomando un chocolate caliente con los compañeros, y otros que me voy directamente a la habitación para descansar y así aprovecho para ponerme al día con mis series o películas favoritas. ¿Cuáles? Por ejemplo, ‘The Big Bang Theory’ o ‘How I met your mother’.

Al día siguiente,  tenemos el desayuno entre las nueve y las diez de la mañana. Consiste en mucha fruta, tostadas, cereales y tortilla o huevos revueltos. Después salimos a dar un paseo, alrededor del hotel, de diez o quince minutos para estirar las piernas y airearnos un poco. Sobre las doce menos cuarto de la mañana hacemos el pre-match, en el que la comida es muy parecida a la cena del día anterior. Lo habéis acertado: un buen plato de pasta con pollo. Y finalmente, a eso de las doce y cuarto, nos reunimos de nuevo el grupo del café para especular con la alineación y tomar nuestra taza de rigor antes del partido, ya que, hasta la una menos no sabemos quién va a jugar. Cuando llegamos al estadio, seguro que muchos os habéis preguntado: ¿Pero qué coño van escuchando? Pues en mi caso, suelo escuchar flamenco, en especial el maestro Camarón, aunque no siempre son las mismas. De hecho, aprovecho para contaros que a partir de ahora todos los viernes tenemos una cita musical en twitter. Y es que he pensado hacer una lista de canciones para escuchar antes del partido, y en esa lista me gustaría que vosotros participarais. Así que cada viernes, voy a pedir vuestras sugerencias y las que más me gusten las añadiré a mi iPod.

What happens in a match day until the arrival at the stadium? So many of you ask how is a pre-match day and what I do once I´m at the hotel, so let me tell you what I do the day before the match as a Villa player. We normally arrived at the hotel the previous day, so they control the nutrition part; to have a rest helps to being isolated from the pressure and the supporters. Upon de arrival we do the check-in as any person, and we split up in two groups: one for those who likes to stay watching telly or playing PlayStation in the room, and the other the ones going for a coffee.

The Coffee group is formed, including me, by Stan, Gabby, Brad, Fabian and Emil, and this year N´zogbia and Hutton have both jointed the group. We spend most of the afternoon telling what we´ve done during the week and having a laugh remembering the jokes at the rest-room and training sessions. We also laugh at each other mostly because of the clothing we wear… The truth is it´s an easy argument because none of us get away with it; anyone can have a bad day!! Me too…

Brad Guzan is perhaps our favourite target, as he is the one suffering a constant torture, laughing because he fits a size 60 and he can´t find any shoes! I don´t get away with it neither, they laugh about my accent and pronunciation. I accept that I must confess. The truth is that we have lots of jokes for everyone in the team!! Apart from messing around we also check the possibilities of the game, we talk about the team we play against, about our approach to the game and if someone has a friend in the other team, we text him trying to wind him up. I believe all these laughs make us stronger as a team.

Around half six in the afternoon, we have a meeting where the boss analyzes the rival (this one is the official not the one with the coffee group) and it last about 20 min. After that, dinner time at 19ish. Yep! I know it sounds weird… but we´re in England! We have a buffet with many different types of pasta, vegetables, chicken and fish. Most of us have a salad as a starter and then the main course which normally is pasta with chicken. I usually take a bowl of fruit with me upstairs because (that´s between us) at 10 o´clock… I´m starving!!!   
Some days, after dinner, I stay for a hot chocolate with the lads; and others I rather go straight to my bedroom and rest watching my favourites series or movies like ‘The Big Bang Theory’ o ‘How I met your mother’. 

The next day we have breakfast between 9 am and 10 am. We mainly have fruit, toasts, cereals and eggs. After that we have a 15min stroll round the hotel to stretch the legs and have a bit of fresh air. About quarter to twelve we have the pre-match where the food is quite similar to the one we had for dinner. Yes, you got me! I had pasta and chicken again. Finally at quarter past twelve the coffee group meet up again and speculate about the line up while having a cup of coffee because until one ish we don´t know who´s playing. When we arrive at the stadium, I´m sure you have asked yourself, what the hell are they listening to? In my case, I listen to some flamenco, especially Camarón. In fact, let me tell you that from now on every Friday, I have a musical appointment on twitter. I have been thinking of making a playlist to listen to before the games; I´d like you to help me doing it. So every Friday I will ask for your suggestions and I will upload the ones I like to my iPod.
