En mi búnker: fútbol, familia, radio, películas y marisco / At my bunker: Family, shellfish, movies, radio and of course… Football

Aquí estoy, en el búnker que se ha convertido mi casa. La nieve que cae constantemente desde la semana pasada me tiene inmovilizado sin moverme de aquí. La casa está repleta de comida, películas y series. Eso sí, diré que todas son originales (que lo de la ley Sinde tiene a la gente alterada). 

La verdad es que la nevada me ha dejado un poco apagado esta semana. Tras la alegría por volver a jugar -de titular y como central- en el derbi (el último partido liguero que jugué antes fue otro derbi ganado, entonces a los Wolves) vino el no partido con el Wigan. Además de viajar y no jugar no pude aprovechar los días libres que nos dieron para ir a España para estar con la familia. 

No me trae buenos recuerdos este enfrentamiento. El año pasado me pasó lo mismo: con los días libres y el vuelo cogido me tuve que quedar aquí. Tres días en casa. Y es que es mejor no moverse. El otro día tras el partido me costó hacer un recorrido que normalmente hago en 15 minutos cerca de hora y media. He tenido un par de sustos y casi me quedo tirado cuatro veces cuando he tenido que salir con el coche por obligación. Estas navidades viene por primera vez mi madre y para asegurarme el viaje a Luton, para recogerla, he bajado con el todoterreno de un compañero.

Muchos me preguntais en las redes sociales por el parón liguero en España. Pues por una parte parar viene bien para que los jugadores puedan descansar y estar con sus familias… y por otra yo creo se pierde mucho espectáculo. El problema es que en España no hay tradición de jugar en estas fechas. La verdad yo votaría por jugar, pero claro me he acostumbrado ya estos años a estar danzando por ahí. Yo me concentro el 25 para el partido del domingo, viajo el 27 y también el 1 de enero, porque jugamos el domingo 2 en Londres contra el Chelsea. 

Al menos tenemos la opción de disfrutar de Nochebuena y Nochevieja. Aquí hay buen marisco, ya que Escocia está cerca y es de calidad. Hay un gran mercado (como si fuese Mercamadrid) que también está abierto a particulares y no sólo a establecimientos. Solemos ir a comprar allí. El 24 estarán también los padres de mi novia Eva y algún amigo rezagado. No es una noche para pasar solo. Espero que la vuestra sea muy feliz y la disfruteis con los que quereis. Os deseo feliz Navidad (como en este anuncio del Villa)

PD: Estoy disfrutando mucho con el programa de radio This is fútbol de Cope. Me siento muy agusto y me explican que se está descargando el podcast en números récords. Mis amigos periodistas de @Imagosport dicen que lo hago bien. Si ellos lo dicen, habrá que creerlo. Si os apetece oirme y ponerme nota aquí teneis la opción.

Here I am at my place that has become a bunker. I have been locked at home the whole week due to the constant snowfall. The house is full of food and movies, all of them original ones (the people in Spain is a bit upset because of the Sinde’s law).

The truth is the snowfall has left a bit down this week. After the joy of play again as a centre back from the beginning in the derby day (the last league game I played was another derby, won then to Wolves) came the game against Wigan. Besides the trip to Wigan and not playing I couldn’t enjoy the days off I got to go to Spain and visit my folks.

I don’t have special regards from that game. Last year was the same; Days off and the ticket booked and I couldn’t go. Three days at home. It is better not to plan anything. The other day after the game it took me an hour an a half to do a route I normally do in fifteen minutes. I’ve had a couple of near misses and nearly broke down four times when I had to take the car. This year and for the first time my mum is coming and to secure the trip to Luton I borrowed the four wheels vehicle from a team mate.

Some of you have been asking about the Xmas break in the Spanish league on social networks. I think in one hand is good for the players as they rest and spent time with the family but in the other hand you miss the entire thing about the game. There’s no tradition to play these days in Spain. I would say yes to play these days, well that’s easy because I’m use to it after all the years doing it. We meet for the pre-match preparation on the 25th for Sunday’s game; Travel on the 27th and also the 1st of January because we play Chelsea on the 2nd.

At least we can enjoy Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Here you can buy really good shellfish, Scotland is nearby and the quality is good. There is a massive fish market, its open for everyone not only grocers; we normally go there for shopping. For the 24th (that’s when we Spanish celebrate Xmas) my in-laws along with some straggler friend will be around. Not a night to be alone. I hope you guys enjoy yours whatever you do.

PS: I’m having a good time with the programme “This is Football” on the Spanish radio station Cope. I feel great doing it and people is downloading podcasts, record numbers as I’ve been told. My media friends from Imagospot support me telling me I’m doing it fine. If they say so I’ll have to believe it.
