Jugando ya Premier… y ahora vuelve nuestra Carling / Playing Premier… and now becomes our Carling Cup

Os escribo mientras veo fútbol de la Liga española, ahora hay parece la Premier. Todos los días hay partidos, lo que es bueno para el espectador. Estoy contento por haber jugado mis primeros minutos en la Premier. Tuve la oportunidad de hacerlo ante el Bolton, por la desgracia de un compañero. Entré en la segunda mitad, me encontré muy agusto, sin ningún problema, en la posición de central. Además, no encajamos goles. El punto sabe a poco, pero aún es pronto en la temporada y podremos ir mejorando para intentar meternos entre los cuatro primeros.

Muchos me habeis preguntado en las redes sociales por el nuevo entrenador, que ya está trabajando con nosotros. Apenas llevamos un par de días, pero ya se va viendo claro sus ideas y métodos. Quiere una defensa fuerte y salir ágil al ataque. Le gusta que sus equipos jueguen la pelota y ya estamos trabajando mucho con el balón. Quizá opte por otro sistema de juego distinto al 4-4-2 que hemos venido jugando estos años…

Hay que adaptarse rápido, aunque ya varios compañeros le han tenido. Muchos recordareis que Houllier estuvo en el Liverpool (allí coincidió con Emil Heskey, Steven Warnock y Brad Friedel) pero también lo hizo en el Olympique de Lyon. En esa etapa allí, que ganó dos Ligas, estaba John Carew. Seguramente recordeis que amargaron al Real Madrid en la Champions. John hizo un gol en cada partido y uno espectacular de tacón en el Bernabéu. Eso nos va a ayudar, porque viene con el preparador físico con el que estaba en el Lyon.

Ahora nos toca jugar en Carling Cup contra el Blackburn. Estamos con muchas ganas, porque además el partido y esta competición nos trae grandes recuerdos. La final del año pasado en Wembley ante el Manchester United llegó después de que ganasemos al propio Blackburn en Villa Park… por ¡6-4! Fue posiblemente el partido más raro de mi vida.

En la primera parte, cada vez que tirábamos a puerta cualquiera de los dos era gol. Por suerte pudimos remontar y al final fue la locura. Para los jugadores y para la afición, que llevaba muchos años esperando algo así… Luego ya llegó el día de la final de la Carling, con toda esa gente en los días previos ilusionada con el viaje desde Birmingham a la capital. Y con mis amigos españoles viajando para verme…
Por todo eso, porque se pueda repetir esos momentos de alegría, hay que intentar volver a jugar la final como la de febrero. Será complicado, porque es un torneo complicado y largo. Hay que ir paso a paso, pero vamos a poner nuestro esfuerzo en intentarlo.

I write while watching the Spanish League. Now in Spain every day there are matches. I think this is good for the viewer. I’m happy because I played my first minutes in this Premier. He wants a strong defense and then get out fast to attack. He likes his teams to play the ball and we’re working hard with the ball. He may choose another game system, different than the 4-4-2 we’ve been playing these years …
