España se crece ante un grande / Spain grows up againt a Top Team

España da un golpe en la mesa en el momento justo. Muchos eran los que habían puesto en tela de juicio a este equipo por lo hecho hasta la fecha en el Mundial y hoy lo demostró ante Portugal, una de las grandes, que no conviene dudar de este grupo.

Puede que no hayan estado tan brillantes como soñábamos (siempre imaginas la excelencia después de la Eurocopa), pero España ha estado a la altura de las circunstancias cuando ha sido preciso, por más que el golpe de Suiza fuera demasiado bajo. Honduras, Chile y Portugal pueden dar fe de ello. Ni la siempre amenazante presencia de Cristiano nos sacó del carril que nos deja en cuartos.

El duelo con los portugueses, además, nos deja el regusto dulce de una segunda parte imponente, sobre todo tras la entrada de Fernando Llorente. Del Bosque dio de lleno en el cambio. Con él en el campo, nuestro fútbol ganó en recursos y velocidad sacando a Portugal de la cueva. Nueve partidos habían estado los portugueses sin encajar un gol hasta que Iniesta, Xavi y, cómo no, Villa encendieron la luz en una combinación genial. Con el gol del ‘Guaje’, uno de los mejores futbolistas en Sudáfrica, España escondió la pelota y manejó a Portugal a su antojo. Una lección de fútbol a la altura del prestigio español. Puede que un gol más hubiese sido la guinda, pero el control que ejercimos sobre el rival no nos hizo echarlo de menos.

La siguiente estación es Paraguay. Estaríamos muy equivocados haciéndoles de menos. Ya tenemos la lección aprendida del primer partido ante Suiza y ellos me imagino que también. Los suizos serán su ejemplo a seguir para los paraguayos si quieren estar en las semifinales con las que nosotros soñamos. El sábado veremos si hemos aprendido de nuestros errores. Yo creo que sí. Al menos la segunda parte ante Portugal me hace creer mucho en ellos.

Spain slams on the table at the right moment. Many were who questioned this team for what they have done to date in the World Cup and today against Portugal Spain demonstrated that wouldn’t be fair to question this team.

Maybe they haven’t played as brilliantly as we wish (you always figure the excellency after the EuroCup), but Spain has been in place when was more needed, however the defeat against Switzerland was a big blow. Honduras, Chile and Portugal could certify that. Not even the always dangerous Cristiano could stop us to get to the last eight.

The duel against Portugal, also leave us a sweet taste of an impressive second half mainly after the Fernando Llorente entry. Del Bosque was right with the change. With Llorente on the pitch our football became more fluent and quicker, pulling Portugal defence out. Nine games in a row without concede a goal until Inesta, Xavi and of course Villa got right the perfect combination. With Villa’s goal, one of the best players in this World Cup, Spain got the ball and handle Portugal at will. Perfect football lesson from a captivating Spain. Perhaps a second goal would have been prefect but the way we controlled the rival was the reason we didn’t missed it.

The next stop is Paraguay. We would be wrong if we take the win for granted. We’ve learnt the lesson against the Swiss, so do they (Paraguay).The Swiss will be the example if the Paraguayan want to be in the semi-finals, the same we dream of. On Saturday we will see if we have learnt from our mistakes, I believe so. At least the second half against Portugal make me trust them.
