The former Madrid-born footballer—who also played for Numancia, Osasuna, and Almería—became a Rangers legend during a historic year in which the club came within touching distance of a UEFA Cup title.
It’s hard not to think of the iconic Osasuna side when talking about Carlos Cuéllar (Madrid, 44). The former centre-back was much more than the defensive leader of that unforgettable team that reached a Copa del Rey final, qualified for the Champions League, and advanced to the UEFA Cup semi-finals in the early 2000s.
He also carved out legendary status in British football, becoming a true icon in Glasgow thanks to a remarkable 2007–08 season in which he was named Scottish Premier League Player of the Year, lifted both domestic cups, and played in a UEFA Cup final that saw Manchester flooded with nearly 300,000 Rangers fans. How could he not be remembered?
