Recuperado y con Anfield en el horizonte / Recovered with Anfiled on the Horizon

Os escribo desde la nevada Birmingham en una semana algo contradictoria. Por un lado estoy contento, ya que tras un tiempo lesionado me encuentro fantástico, no tengo ningún problema y entreno con normalidad. De hecho, el miércoles ya fui convocado. Eso ha sido la parte buena. La mala es que perdimos en la Carling Cup y no podré volver a jugar la final como prometí a la afición el año pasado tras lo de Wembley.

Caímos en cuartos con los vecinos del Birmingham, que se volvieron literalmente locos tras el partido. Hubo invasión de campo y todo, pero no me enteré de lo que pasó ya que los suplentes, en cuanto vimos que pitaba, nos fuimos rápido al vestuario. vimos de vuelta los helicópteros por la ciudad y demás, pero no sabía realmente si era grave o no. Luego sí he leído en los medios, y te también me ha contado un amigo al que le pillaron los disturbios de modo circustancial, que se produjeron unos problemas tremendos. La verdad es que desde antes del partido se notaba un ambiente demasiado tenso, ya que el autobus iba escoltado por 8 motos. Es algo que nunca sucede…

En fin, no vale de nada pensar en lo que podían haber sido las semifinales. Lo mejor es pensar en la Liga, ya que tenemos que ganar para empezar a escalar puestos en la tabla. Lo primero que nos viene es el Liverpool, un partido especial ya que están allí Reina y Torres. Con Fernando, que siempre me ha parecido un delantero excepcional, he tenido muchos duelos tanto en España como aquí. Espero volver a medirme con él.

Os decía que estoy recuperado, trabajando y esperando tener una oportunidad para ayudar al equipo.  Recuerdo que una de las veces que jugué contra Fernando ya aquí nevaba, como ahora. Sé que por varios sitios de España también ha nevado, pero os he subido una fotillo de lo que se ve desde mi casa. Es normal, es época de que pase. Es un poco de molestia en el día a día, hay que tener más cuidado con el coche y las aceras, que están algo resbaladizas. En cuanto a lo deportivo afecta poco. Tenemos un campo de entrenamiento cubierto y otro fuera que su césped está tapado con una lona, que se quita cuando vamos a practicar. Un lujo vamos.

Y es que yo estoy acostumbrado. En todos los sitios que he estado hacía frío. Calahorra, Soria, Pamplona, Glasgow… Además, así las visitas notan más que es Navidad. Son fechas con visitas de amigos y familiares, que saben que la Navidad aquí es especial porque no paramos de jugar. Ojalá me den suerte en este último mes de 2010. Para empezar en Anfield, donde la campaña pasada ganamos 1-3.

PD: Me he llevado una desilusión con lo del Mundial 2018. Imagino que como todos vosotros… o un poco más. Y es que yo tenía dos opciones: España e Inglaterra. Nada, ninguna de las dos.

I’m writing from the heavy snow here at Birmingham, in a week some how contradictory. In one hand I’m happy because I feel great. I’m fully recovered and I’m training with the group again. In fact last Wednesday I was called for the team. In the other hand we lost our tie in the Carling Cup and I won’t play the final as I promised after Wembley last year to the supporters.

We lost the quarter finals to our Birmingham neighbours; they went crazy after the match they even got on the pitch. I didn’t notice anything because as soon as I and the rest at the bench heard the final whistle we went straight to the changing room. We even saw helicopters in our way back but I didn’t know if it was serious or not. Later on I read what happened in the newspapers and also a friend told me he got in the riot by accident and that there were serious problems. To be honest the week before the game the atmosphere was tense, the bus was escorted by eight motorbikes. That never happens…
Anyway it’s no worthy think about how could have been the semi finals. Better let’s focus in the League. We have to win games and get the points so we can go up in the table. The first to come is Liverpool a special game because Reina and Torres play there. I face Torres a few times both in Spain and here and I always thought he’s a great striker.

As I said I’m fully recovered, working hard and waiting for a chance to help the team. I remember one time I play against Fernando it was snowing like now. I know it has been snowing in Spain too but I have uploaded a few pics of what you see from my window. It’s normal it’s the time for it. It’s a bit stressing in the day to day life, be careful with the car and the pavement that it’s really slippery. For the sport side it’s ok because we train under cover and the pitch out side is covered with canvas that gets removed when we play there. Perfect!

I’m use to it. In all the places I’ve play it was cold; Calahorra, Soria, Pamplona, Glasgow… Also when someone comes feels the Christmas a bit more. Friends and family visit me these days; they know Christmas here it’s special because the League doesn’t stop. Hope they bring me luck in this last month of the 2010. Beginning at Anfield where we won last year 1-3.

PS: I feel disappointed about the 2018 World Cup; I guess like everyone else… or even more as I had two options England and Spain. None of them.
