Villa into fifth round!

Robert Pires scored his first goal for Aston Villa to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup with a victory over Blackburn Rovers (3-1). Gerard Houllier's team survived the second half dismissal of Baker to progress thanks to a two-goal advantage.

Villa started well and opened the scoring through Ciaran Clark. Blackburn levelled seven minutes later when Michel Salgado scampered to the byline and his lowcross was steered just over the line by Nikola Kalinic.

Pires's half-volley restored Villa's lead before Delfouneso headed home their third from Baker's cross.

Houllier made a half-time substitution with Downing replacing Agbonlahor. Villa forced three successive corners and Baker headed just wide at the far post from a Pires centre.

Villa were dominating possession and were reduced to 10 men after 62 minutes when Baker was given a straight red card for a challenge on Hoilett.

Martin Olsson fired the bar for Rovers but Blackburn rarely threatened a comeback. It was Villa who created the best late chances. Two fine saves by Robinson stopped Downing from adding to their tally before the end. Aston Villa continues their recent revival with Carlos Cuéllar playing again all the match.
