The Kiryat Shmona obtained a very positive result in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the State Cup of Israel. Carlos Cuéllar team drew 1-1 in their visit to the powerful Hapoel Be'er Sheva, the best team in the country in recent years. The result could have been even better, because Nigel Hasselbaink put Hapoel Ironi in front in the 31 minute. The visitors were far better in the first half, and had chances to stretch the lead. Hapoel maintained the result until the 69 minute, when Melikson made the equaliser.

Soon after Yehezkel red card complicated even more the situation for Kiryat Shmona, who knew how to defend the result. Cuéllar, who last Saturday scored a goal and was captain of Hapoel Ironi for the first time, completed the 90 minutes and helped to hold the Be'er Sheva attacks up until the final whistle.
The second leg will be play on 28 February. At stake a semifinal of a competition that Kiryat Shmona won in the 2013-14 season. Before that, Carlos will have to face important games in the league to get close to the top team on the table. The first one will be this Saturday against Maccabi Haifa.
