Kiryat Shmona lost to Maccabi Petah Tikva (2-0) in their first match of 2018 in the Israeli Premier League. After last Friday´s Cup tie against Hapoel Afula being postponed, due to the poor ground conditions, the new year started uphill. Diniz red card, in minute 20, conditioned the game. Despite playing with one player less almost the entire match, Hapoel Ironi held the scored until the 72nd minute. Sivok got the 1-0 and Cohen made the second shortly after. Just before the 2-0, Kiryat Shmona was left with nine players (Menachem saw another red card).
Carlos Cuéllar, once more in the starting line-up, played the complete match against his ex-teammates. The Spaniard returned to play against what was his fans during the last season. A supporters that keeps a fond memory of Carlos. The defeat increases the importance of the next game for Hapoel Ironi, on Saturday against Beitar Jerusalem.
