Carlos Cuéllar only spent a season at Rangers and left his mark in the Scottish Premier League, also noticed for the sports media (more than 80 years since a centre-back won this award). He won the League Cup with the protestant team and the Scottish Cup and also reached the 2007-08 UEFA final. An achievement that will have its ninth anniversary on the 1 May.
In the 2006/07 UEFA Cuéllar, playing with the Osasuna kit, was close to qualify for a decisive game against Sevilla, that ended the 'rojillos' progress in the competition. The next season, with Rangers, Carlos reached the glory when he beat Fiorentina in the semi-finals. After a final 0-0, the game was decided in the penalty shoot-out. The 1st May 2008, at the Artemio Franchi, sealed their qualification for the final in the penalty shoot-out (4-2).
Arshavin's FC Zenit, the sensation in the European football, lifted the trophy that season, but in the memory stays in Rangers achievement in the tournament. Besides Fiorentina, Werder Bremen or Sporting Portugal lost to Carlos and his teammates.
