Goadless draw at Wigan (0-0)

Aston Villa draw at the DW Stadium. The game ended goalless but the scoreline defied the open, end-to-end action in an entertaining match.

The best chance fell to Villa's Darren Bent, who later went off with an injured ankle, but his first-half shot was saved by Ali Al Habsi.

Villa's Robbie Keane failed to find the net in the last match of his loan spell, the Irishman returning to LA Galaxy after three goals in seven fixtures.

Keane was the creative force in a Villa team lacking captain Stilian Petrov due to injury. Utilising the space between Wigan's three-man central defence and their midfield, he wriggled free to force Habsi to redirect a ninth-minute daisycutter around a post, before turning provider just shy of the quarter-hour.

Gabriel Agbonlahor was named as Aston Villa captain for the first time after Stiliyan Petrov was ruled out of today's clash with Wigan.

Wigan have now gone 11 Premier League matches at home without a win.
