¡Por fin llegó el golpe de suerte! / At last a strike of luck!!

Los agoreros tendrán que esperar. España ya está en octavos y como primera de grupo, el gran objetivo antes de aterrizar en Sudáfrica en previsión de un duelo con Brasil. No ha sido fácil, pero nadie dijo que fuera a serlo. La derrota ante Suiza fue un mazazo pero también una lección: nadie gana sólo por su escudo. Es una máxima del fútbol que nunca debes olvidar por muy grande que seas. España, por lo visto, lo tiene claro y ha sabido reponerse a un duro traspiés. Sin alardes, bien es cierto, pero con un ejercicio de profesionalidad encomiable nuestro equipo ya está listo para la pelea. También con fortuna justo es reconocerlo.

La suerte siempre es un factor determinante en este tipo de torneos y España se alió con ella para tumbar a una Chile que en los primeros 20 minutos nos tuvo contra las cuerdas. La presión asfixiante y el vértigo en la circulación de balón por parte de los chilenos auguraban una mala tarde para los nuestros. Pero el golpe de fortuna que nos faltó ante Suiza lo tuvimos anoche en el gol (golazo con su pierna mala)de Villa primero y en el de Iniesta, después. El gol de Andrés, además, valió doble porque en la misma jugada fue expulsado Estrada. Todo a favor de obra y sin haber hecho más que un par de buenas jugadas por banda.

Es precisamente ahí, en las bandas donde flojea España. Sin Navas y Silva, el equipo se resiente en esta faceta tan importante y pierde profundidad. Quizá sea una cuestión a tener en cuenta frente a Portugal. Por lo visto hasta ahora de los portugueses, tiene pinta de que nos esperarán atrás y de nuestra capacidad de desborde dependerá a buen seguro muchas de nuestras opciones de estar en cuartos. Es ahora, ante Portugal, cuando necesitamos recuperar la mejor versión de España, la que le ha convertido en una firme candidata y la que ha encandilado a todos. Ya no hay margen de maniobra.

The pessimists will have to wait. Spain is in the knock-out stage and as a top of the group, that was the plan before arrive to South Africa, avoiding Brasil. It wasn’t easy but no one said so. The defeat against Switzerland was like a blow with a mace but also a lesson: No one wins just for showing a badge. An important rule you must not forget, it doesn’t matter who you are. Spain apparently has it in mind and knew how to recover from that match. Not playing brilliantly, that’s true, but with professionalism our team is ready for fighting. With a bit of luck to be honest.

The fate is an important factor in this kind of tournament and Spain took advantage of it to beat Chile which in the first 20min got us against the ropes. The pressing and the quick movement of the ball wasn’t promising for our team. But the luck we didn’t get against the Swiss showed off yesterday in Villa’s and Iniesta’s goals. The second goal was twice its value as in the same attack Estrada was sent off. Everything done just with a couple smart bit of play down the touchline.

Precisely there, where Spain is more vulnerable; No Navas neither Silva on the line-up, the team suffers in that aspect and loses depth in attacking. Maybe is a matter to have in mind against Portugal. What we’ve seen from Portugal, so far, looks like they will wait for us at the back, the key will depend on the ability on the wings, those would be our chances to be in the quarter-finals. Right now, against Portugal, we need our best form back , the one that made them a serious candidate and dazzled all us. There is no mistake allowed.
